A REIT is a real estate investment company that is highly regulated and invests in a diversified portfolio of income-producing assets through the ownership of listed shares. REIT shareholders receive dividends from income generated by the underlying real estate investments held by the REIT, without having to source, buy and manage real estate on their own.
